Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Splits Home Opener

Hesston, KS -

The Larks hosted Hutch CC last Friday in a doubleheader at the new Bess Mullet Field, and they would go on to split the series.  After splitting the series the Larks record now sits at 5-5 on the season.

Game 1 Recap

In game 1, both teams battled it out the whole game, but the Larks were able to strike first in the third inning when Alexis Silvey (Fr. Colorado Springs, Colo.) singled home a run to put the Larks up 1-0.  The score would stay the same until the bottom of the fifth when the Larks put up two more runs on a 2-run single by Marissa Harrison (Fr. Mountain Park, Okla.) as the Larks stayed ahead 3-0.  In the top of the sixth, Hutch would make a strike as they scored two runs, but the Larks were able to hold them off and secure a 3-2 victory.  This marks the first win at the new Bess Mullet Field for the Larks.  Chelsea Smith (So. Tacoma, Wash.) would get the start in the circle as she went a complete game and secured her third victory on the season.

Game 2 Recap

Game 2 had no shortage of offense by either team as both teams scored runs in almost every inning of this game.  In the first inning, Hutch took an early 2-0 lead, but that lead wouldn't last long as the Larks added three runs in the bottom half when Jessie Miranda (So.Turlock, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch, then Amy Bretado (So. Whittier, Calif.)  drove in 2 runs with a single.  Hutch would add three runs in the top of the second as they led 5-3 until the bottom of the third inning.  That is when the Larks offense went off as they added five runs , courtesy of a 2-run homerun by Marissa Harrison, a 2-run single by Olivia Nava (Fr. Dickson, Texas), and an RBI single by Jessie Miranda.  In the bottom of the fifth, Jessie Miranda added another RBI on a double to put the Larks up 9-5, then Olivia Nava would add another run on a wild pitch extending the Larks lead to 10-5.  Heading into the seventh inning, Hesston led 10-8, but Hutch would add two runs to tie it up at 10.  This game went to extra innings, and Hutch scored a run in the eighth which would secure the victory for them.  Amy Bretado got the start in the circle for the Larks as she went 1 inning and gave up five earned runs, Chelsea Smith recorded the loss in seven innings of relief.
