HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College men's soccer team dropped a tough battle to the Ottawa University reserves 1-0 in their season opener on Friday, August 23. After a scoreless first half, the Braves took the lead midway through the second half. The Larks outshot the Braves 12-10 in the contest, but were unable to find the equalizer late despite being aggressive on the attack late in the period.
The lone score of the contest came in the 56th minute when a long boot from the Ottawa keeper sailed deep into Hesston's half creating a tough play for Luis Jimenez that resulted in a chip in goal.
Jimenez still had a strong showing between the posts for the Larks, recording five impressive saves. The Braves keeper, Javier Barroso, also recorded five saves.
The Larks will be back in action Wednesday, August 28 as they take on the reserve squad form the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth at 7 p.m.
