HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston College men's soccer team earned a gritty 1–0 win over Randall University on Tuesday night (Sept. 30) to earn their third straight win.
The Larks had the better of play from the start, creating chances off six first-half corner kicks and outshooting the Saints 18–5 on the night. Even with all the pressure, the breakthrough didn't come until late in the second half. In the 79th minute, sophomore Yura Yamazaki found the net off a pass from Santi Llanos, delivering what turned out to be the game-winner.
Hesston's defense stayed locked in the rest of the way. Keeper Harry Morris recorded the shutout, needing just one save thanks to a back line that limited Randall to a single shot on goal. Midfielders Nedas Vaivada and Saul Pineda also kept the Saints busy, combining for several quality looks that tested the Randall keeper.
The victory moves the Larks to 5–6 on the season. They'll hit the road Saturday (Oct. 4) for a matchup with Dallas Christian College at 1:00 p.m.
