Arissa Cathey-4th Place
The Hesston College cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Continental Athletic Conference Championships.
In the women's 6k, freshman Arissa Cathey (Abilene, Kan.) placed fourth with a time of 27:06.7, finishing among the lead group. Sophomore Maddy Ralph (Colwich, Kan.) earned a ninth-place finish with a time of 29:23.3, giving the Larks two top-ten runners in the race. With her top-5 finish, Cathey earned first-team all-conference honors, and Ralph earned second-team honors with her top-10 finish.
The Hesston men finished second as a team in the 8k with a total time of 2:30:41 and a score of 55. Freshman Nathan Lewis (Wichita, Kan.) led the way in ninth place in 28:42.5, followed by fellow freshman Jonah Krumme (Wichita, Kan.) in tenth at 28:51.5. As top-10 finishers, Lewis and Krumme earned second-team all-conference honors. Sophomore Ethan Thompson (Hesston, Kan.) placed twelfth in 29:50.5, while sophomore Jack Hunter (Abilene, Kan.) took fifteenth in 31:35.5. Freshman Seth Crouse (Chapman, Kan.) finished sixteenth in 31:41.9, freshman Ethan Gonzales (Abilene, Kan.) seventeenth in 32:07.2, sophomore Landon Lunsford (Newton, Kan.) eighteenth in 32:22.9, freshman Dakota Nisbeth (Chapman, Kan.) twentieth in 32:39.1, and sophomore Sebastian Pavlovich (Lindsborg, Kan.) twenty-second in 35:05.6.
As part of the CAC Championships, each team recognizes one male and female student-athlete who most exemplify the NAIA's Champions of Character values for their team as nominated by their coaches. Hesston's female recipient of the award was Maddy Ralph, and the male recipient was Ethan Thompson.
The Larks will await an announcement from the NAIA on any potential national meet qualifiers.
