The Hesston College softball team fell in a pair of doubleheaders to Southeast Community College and Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Sunday and Monday (Mar. 16-17). The Larks will be back in action on Thursday (Mar. 27) as they start conference play against Allen Community College starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – Hesston College 3, Southeast Community College 16
The Bobcats took an early lead plating five runs in the opening frame. The Larks scored one run in the home half thanks to an RBI single by Carly Lee. Southeast added six runs in the second and five more in the fourth to go up 16-1. The Larks found some rhythm in the fifth stringing together a pair of runs on two hits, a walk and a Bobcat error, but the Bobcats stopped the damage there to claim the win in five innings.
Lee led the Larks at the plate going 2-for-2 with an RBI
Anndi Sharp tossed 3.2 innings in relief for the Larks allowing 11 runs (none earned) on 10 hits while striking out two batters. The Larks struggled defensively making seven errors in the field.
Game 2 – Hesston College 4, Southeast Community College 12
Southeast got off to another hot start scoring five runs in the first inning of game two. The Larks trimmed the lead a bit with a run in the bottom of the second inning on a bases loaded single by Kyrsten Pauley, but the Bobcats answered in the third by scoring on a Lark fielding error. Southeast added six more runs in the top of the fifth. The Larks once again got their bats going late scoring three runs on two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. Emery Martinez doubled down the left field line to bring in a run before Serena Hewes singled to center to bring home a pair, but Southeast wrapped things up with a routine groundout to sweep the series.
Martinez finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI
April Galicia was the starting pitcher for Hesston allowing nine runs (three earned) on 11 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Game 1 – Hesston College 0, NOC-Enid 12
The Larks struggled offensively against the Jets in game one managing only two hits and being unable to cross the plate. The Jets recorded 13 hits in the contest including four home runs.
Alysha Kendrick and Mimi Castillo each recorded a hit for Hesston.
Dusti Roberts took the loss in the circle for the Larks allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk in one inning of work.
Game 2 – Hesston College 2, NOC-Enid 11
The Jets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game two. The Larks scratched across a pair of runs in the third inning with an RBI double from Kendrick and a bases loaded walk. The Jets responded with one run in the home half before scoring two more in the fifth and ending the game on a three-run home run in the sixth.
Kendrick and Anna Mcintire each recorded two hits in the game.
Sharp took the loss in game two allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk in one inning of work. Galicia tossed the other 4.1 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one batter.
