HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College softball team dropped a pair of games to Neosho County CC on Tuesday (Apr. 8). The Larks will be back in action on Thursday (Apr. 10) as they take on Highland Community College in a conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – Hesston College 0, Neosho County CC 16
The Panthers found consistent offensive rhythm in the third inning and maintained it on their way to a run-rule win over the Larks in five innings. Hesston starter April Galicia kept the Panthers in check early, allowing only one run in the first two innings, but Neosho got the bats going the second time through the order as they plated four runs in the third and fourth innings before racking up seven runs in the fifth.
The Larks struggled offensively as Carly Lee recorded the only hit of the contest. Emery Martinez reached base twice on a pair of walks.
April Galicia made the start for Hesston going 3.2 innings and allowing nine runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out five batters.
Game 2 – Hesston College 1, Neosho County CC 16
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in game two plating five runs in the opening frame. Neosho added two in the second and third innings, six in the fourth and one more in the fifth. The Larks lone run came in the fifth on an RBI double by Alysha Kendrick to drive in Carly Lee who reached on a base hit in the previous at bat.
Lee and Kendrick each went 2-for-3 in the contest. Serena Hewes also recorded a hit for Hesston.
Anndi Sharp had a tough outing as the starter for Hesston allowing five runs on three hits and two walks without recording an out. Dusti Roberts pitched the majority of the game going 3.1 frames and allowing eight runs on 12 hits and a walk.
