Softball Sweeps Red Ravens

GODDARD, Kan. – The Hesston College softball team swept Coffeyville Community College in a doubleheader held at the Genesis Sports Complex. The Larks showed consistent offensive production while also holding strong on defense. This was the first conference doubleheader sweep for the Larks since 2023. The Larks will be back in action on Thursday (May 1) with a doubleheader against Johnson County Community College starting at 2 p.m.

Game 1 – Hesston College 5, Coffeyville CC 1

The Larks got on the board in the opening frame as Carly Lee scored on a ground out after reaching on a leadoff triple. The Red Ravens answered with a run in the top of the second but Anna Mcintire drove in Alysha Kendrick in the bottom of the inning to put the Larks up 2-1. The Larks score their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kendrick hit an RBI single to kickoff the inning before Mcintire hit a two-run inside the park home run off of the fence in left field.

Julia Moore tossed a complete game for her second win of the season allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters.

Game 2 – Hesston College 9, Coffeyville CC 1

Coffeyville struck first in game two with a run in the top of the first, but Hesston responded with a pair of runs in the home half to take the lead for good. Lee crossed the plate on a throwing error before Kendrick drove in Serena Hewes with a single to center. Dayzi Mann drove in Mcintire with an RBI single in the second inning. The Larks added two more runs in the third scoring on a Red Raven error and a sacrifice fly. The scoring continued in the fourth with RBI singles from Lee and Trista Barrett before Lee crossed the plate on another Coffeyville error putting the Larks up 8-1. A pair of Coffeyville errors and a bunt by Kyrsten Pauley put two runners in scoring position for Hesston before Lee drove in the final run to give Hesston their first run-rule win of the year.

Lee finished 2-for-4 in the game with 2 RBI. Kendrick also finished with 2 RBI.

April Galicia tossed a complete game in the circle for Hesston allowing one run on six hits while striking out four batters.
