Larks Fall to No. 16 Oklahoma Wesleyan, 3-1

HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston College men's soccer team fell 3-1 to No. 16-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Monday, Oct. 19, at home. Alexander Radu scored the lone goal for the Larks, who moved to 10-3-1 on the season.

Oklahoma Wesleyan opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Alejandro Aleman Lopez found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. The visitors controlled much of the opening half, outshooting Hesston 17-3, but Larks goalkeeper Harry Morris helped keep the deficit at one goal heading into halftime.

The Eagles extended their lead early in the second half when Mateja Bozic converted a penalty kick at the 48:50 mark, making it 2-0.

Hesston responded with increased offensive pressure, recording nine shots in the second half after managing just three in the first. That effort paid off in the 64th minute when Radu scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Larks continued looking for an equalizer, generating several opportunities over the next 15 minutes. James Hori, Lukas Tyne and Michihiro Koga each recorded attempts as Hesston worked to close the gap.

Oklahoma Wesleyan added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Ognjen Pilic scored off an assist from Aleman Lopez, extending the Eagles' lead to 3-1.

Morris played all 90 minutes in goal for Hesston, recording 10 saves. The Larks also received defensive saves from Saul Pineda and Hori.

Oklahoma Wesleyan finished with a 31-12 advantage in total shots and a 15-4 edge in shots on goal. Radu led Hesston with three shots, while Trevelyan and Hori each recorded two. The Eagles also held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Larks will return to action Thursday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Ozark, Mo., to face Ozark Christian College at 3 p.m.
