HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College men's soccer team earned their 12th win of the season with a 7-1 rout of Ecclesia College on Friday (Oct. 30). Four seniors were honored prior to their final match at Sieber Field. While the emotions were high in their final collegiate soccer match, they made the most of it as each of the Larks' four seniors found the net in the regular season finale.
Senior Mohammad Bushra put the Larks on the board in the 24th minute as he finished a cross from freshman Lukas Tyne before fellow senior Carlos (Oswaldo) Gonzalez found the net in the 32nd minute off an assist from Bushra to help the Larks take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Royals cut the deficit in half in the 59th minute on a free kick goal by Colin Sarpong, but the Larks responded shortly after as Jaiden Trevelyan collected a free kick goal of his own in the 62nd minute. The Larks put the pedal down from there as senior goalkeeper Luis Jimenez converted a penalty kick for the first score of his career. Sophomore Ben Duguid tacked on another goal less than a minute later as he scored off an attempted shot by Mauricio Ramirez in the 68th minute to put the Larks up 5-1. Ramirez went on to find the net himself in the 77th minute with a skillful header off of a pass from Jose Chaman. With less than a minute left in the match and after several set up attempts, the Larks fourth senior finally got his chance as Josh Somerville buried a pass from Tiago Olivera to close out the game.
The Larks outshot the Royals 29-9 in the match putting 13 on target compared to seven by the visitors. Jimenez also made history on the defensive side of the ball recording six saves in the match which brought him to 288 career saves, the most by a goalkeeper in program history.
The Larks finish the regular season 12-3-2, reaching 12 wins for the first time since 1992.
