Softball Ends Season in McPherson

MCPHERSON, Kan. — Hesston College softball closed out its regular season with a home doubleheader against McPherson College, falling 8-0 in six innings in game one before dropping a 5-2 contest in game two.

In the opener, McPherson set the tone early, plating runs in the first inning and continuing to build momentum throughout the game. The Bulldogs capitalized on timely hits and took advantage of scoring opportunities to extend their lead each inning. Hesston struggled to generate offense against a strong pitching performance, finishing with just a handful of hits in the contest. Mia Manzo and Maddie Kulmala each recorded hits for the Larks, but Hesston was unable to string together sustained offense. McPherson's consistent production at the plate led to the run-rule decision in five innings.

Game two saw a much more competitive effort from Hesston. McPherson again struck early, but the Larks responded with improved at-bats and more consistent pressure offensively. Hesston scored two runs in the contest, highlighted by RBI contributions from Ciara Mendez and Maddie Kulmala. Manzo continued her strong day at the plate, adding another hit, while several Larks reached base to keep innings alive. In the circle, Hesston showed more stability, working through key moments to limit further damage. However, McPherson answered with timely hits of its own, adding insurance runs late to maintain control and secure the sweep.

Manzo, Kulmala and Mendez each finished the day with multiple hits across the doubleheader to lead the Larks offensively.
