HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston College men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-0 victory over Kansas Christian College on Saturday. The win improved the Larks to 7-1-1 on the season.

Hesston controlled the attack throughout the opening half, outshooting Kansas Christian 13-3 and earning six corner kicks. Alexander Radu, Santiago Llanos and Ben Duguid each put attempts on goal, but Kansas Christian goalkeeper Gabriel Farenzena kept the Larks off the board as the teams entered halftime scoreless.

It did not take long for Hesston to break through after halftime. Tiago Oliveira delivered a corner kick in the 47th minute, and Mateo Gonzalez finished the opportunity for the opening goal and a 1-0 Lark advantage.

The Larks continued to pressure the Kansas Christian goal after taking the lead. Saul Pineda, Michihiro Koga and Gonzalez each forced saves during a three-minute stretch, while Hesston added two more corner kicks. Hesston eventually finished the afternoon with 27 shots, including nine on goal, and held a 10-4 advantage in corners. 

Hesston put the match away late. Following a Kansas Christian red card in the 89th minute, Pineda converted a penalty kick at 88:32 to double the Larks' advantage to 2-0.

Pineda led Hesston with six shots, including two on goal and the late penalty-kick goal. Koga added five shots with two on target, while Gonzalez finished with three shots, two on goal and the game-winning goal. Oliveira recorded three shots and assisted Gonzalez's goal. 

Luis Jimenez and Harry Morris split time in goal to combine for the shutout. Jimenez made two saves in the opening 45 minutes before Morris took over for a scoreless second half. Hesston limited Kansas Christian to seven total shots and only two on goal.

The Larks will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29 when they travel to Randall University for a 3 p.m. match.
