Lowell Stephens

Lowell Stephens is in his third season as the head men’s golf coach at Hesston College. In his time at Hesston, he has seen multiple individual and team records broken while coaching two NJCAA DII South Central All-District placers and one individual NJCAA DII Men's National Championship qualifier. During the 2021-22 season, the Larks earned the Mark Laesh Award, given to the team in each division with the biggest improvement in adjusted stroke average per round. The Larks have been ranked as high as 14th in the country with Stephens at the helm.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Stephens earned a bachelor’s degree in business at Central Christian College of Kansas while playing golf as a four-year starter for the Tigers. Stephens won one tournament and earned multiple top-10 finishes at Central Christian. After finishing his playing career, Stephens took a position as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis (Ind.) while earning his master’s degree in sports management. At UIndy, Stephens coached four all-americans and one individual national champion while helping the Greyhounds finish tied for third at the NCAA DII Men’s Golf National Championships.

Stephens also initiated the construction of the indoor practice facility in January 2024.

Lowell and his wife, Vanessa, have a son, Warner, and reside in McPherson.
