The Larks almost pulled off the upset of the year, as they lost to #12 Cloud County 3-2 (25-21, 25-17, 15-25, 24-26, 8-15) last night. Hesston came into their match-up will Cloud riding a three game win streak, winning their past nine sets in a row. The Larks came out on fire as they were able to secure the first two sets to go up 2-0 on the T-Birds running their set win streak to 11. Set 3 was a back-and-forth battle between both teams, but the T-Birds went on run to secure the set by a score of (15-25). In set 4, the Larks trailed Cloud (24-20) before the Larks scored four unanswered points to tie the set up at (24-24). Cloud ended the set by scoring the final two points to tie up the match at 2 sets apiece. Set 5 didn't start out well for the Larks as they got down 3-0. After a time out Hesston went on a run to tie things up. The next few points were back and forth until Cloud went on a five point run to put the set out of reach winning 15-8. Hesston showed a lot of heart and determination throughout the night.Â
MacKenzie Mordecai led the way for the Larks with 10 kills,
Tannah Tilley added 9 kills and
Marta Jantzi added 6 kills as the Larks had a total of 38 kills on the evening.Â
Marta Jantzi and Mackenzie Mordecai both had 15 assists on the evening. Â
This loss brings their record to (9-12, 0-5) on the season, and they will now turn their attention onto prepping for their next match on Wednesday, October 9 versus Cowley County.
