Softball Drops Two in Season Opener

Athens, Texas -

The Larks traveled south to Texas to open up regular season play with a doubleheader match-up against Trinity Valley Community College.  They would end up dropping both games as they now start the season out 0-2, and will search for their first win on Wednesday against Central Christian.

Game 1 Recap

The Larks lost a tough first game of the season by the score of 3-0, as both teams battled through the whole game.  Hesston was unable to record a hit in this game, but showed fight against a very good Cardinal team.  Chelsea Smith (So. Tacoma, Wash.) got the start in the circle for the Larks as she threw a complete game, and recorded a loss.  She was still able to shine in the circle despite the loss as she recorded 9 strikeouts and only gave up 2 earned runs.  The Larks were able to draw 2 walks in the game by Amy Bretado (So. Whittier, Calif.) and Marissa Harrison (Fr. Mountain Park, Okla.).

Game 2 Recap

The Larks looked to rebound in game 2 as they came out in the first inning swinging as Marissa Harrison smashed a 2-run homerun to put the Larks up 2-0 after one inning of play.  This was Harrison's first career hit and first career homerun in a Lark uniform.  The Cardinals would go on to add 3 runs in the second inning, and go up 3-2 on the Larks.  That would end Larks starting pitchers day in the circle, Amy Bretado, as she went 1.2 innings and giving up 3 earned runs with no strikeouts.  Game 1 starter, Chelsea Smith would finish out the rest of the game pitching for the Larks as she would go 4.1 innings and give up 4 earned runs.  Alexis Silvey (Fr. Colorado Springs, Colo.) would as add her first career hit in a Larks uniform as she recorded 1 of the 2 Lark hits on the day.

What's Next?

The Larks will host the Tigers of Central Christian at home on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 PM at the new Bess Mullet Field on the campus of Hesston College.  They will play a doubleheader with the Tigers as they look to add their first two wins on the season.
