The Larks opened their conference play by splitting with Cloud County today, as they dropped game one 9-1 and won game two 15-12. Â This moves their overall record to (9-5, 1-1) on the season, they will host Cowley County on Thursday night at The Bess. Â
Game 1
Hesston started game one off slow as they trailed 7-0 heading into the top of third inning. Â In the top of the third, the Larks added their lone run of the game as
Kimberlin Hopson doubled down the left field line, as
Izy Cain crossed the plate as the Larks trailed 7-1. Â Cloud County would go on to add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and take the game by run rule as they defeated the Larks 9-1. Â
Jessie Miranda added two more stolen bases, to bring her 24-24 on stolen bases this season. Â
Game 2
Game two featured a high scoring affair between the two teams, Cloud County took a 10-0 lead into the third inning. Â In the top of the third inning the Larks exploded for 12 runs on 10 hits to take a 12-10 lead. Â
Kimberlin Hopson and
Marissa Harrison both hit 2-run doubles in the third,
Izy Cain and
Mariah Gilmartin also drove in runs with a single each. Â
Alexis Silvey had a huge hit in the third inning as she cleared the bases as she crushed a triple to the left-center gap! Â The T-Birds added two runs in the bottom of the third as they tied the game up at 12-12. Â In the top of the fifth, the Larks took the lead on an RBI double by
Mariah Gilmartin as they took a 13-12 lead.In the top of the seventh inning,Â
Kimberlin Hopson drove in two more runs on her second double of the game as the Larks extended their lead to 15-12. Â
Natalie Fischer would get the win in relief as she went 6 1/3 innings while striking out two batters.
