The Larks hosted MCC-Blue River last night in their season opener and were able to have a good showing for all of the fans in attendance. This game had a hige attendance as there was over 175 people counted for, this comes after crowds were limited last season due to COVID protocols.
The Larks began the game holding the Wolves scoreless until the 14th minute, when a miscue happened near the Larks goal and the ball ricocheted off of a Larks player and went into the goal as MCC took the 1-0 lead. Just 8 minutes later, MCC added another goal to give them a 2-0 lead in the first half. The Larks came back firing as they score just 4 minutes later in the 26th minute when
Treston Carlson shot one past the goalie on an assist by
Ryusei Ogawa, shrinking the MCC lead to 2-1. Hesston added another goal in the 36th minute after
Sam Ostergren scored after an assist by
Adrian Muhabuki, as they tied the game up at 2-2.
In the second half, both teams went back and forth as neither team was able to score a goal. The Larks had some opportunities to score after
Armando Ramirez provided the crowd some excitement after two bicycle kick shot on goals. At full time, the teams remained tied 2-2, and they head to a golden goal overtime. After 20 minutes of overtime play, neither team was able to score a game winner, they ended the phenomenal game in a 2-2 tie.
Both of the Larks goals were the first career goals in a Larks uniform for both individuals. Hesston will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Southwestern College JV beginning at 7:30 PM.
