Hesston, KS -
The Larks hosted the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College last night and were able to put on quite the show for all the fans in attendance. They came into this game playing well after the had a come from behind tie against MCC-Blue River in a game that went to 2OT.
In the first half, the Larks came out hot as they were able to get a lot of shots on goal early.
Aidan McGonagle was keeping the goal on lockdown in the first half as he had 3 saves and no goals allowed, this coming after he was selected as KJCCC Goal Keeper of the Week earlier in the day. The Larks had 10 shots compared the Builders 2 shots in the first half, but the score remained knotted up 0-0 at the end of the half.
Hesston came out in the second half looking to get on the board first, and in the 55th minute they were able to get on the board first by a goal from
Abwe Abandelwa. This gave the Larks a 1-0 lead, as they looked to build onto their lead. In the 62nd minute the Larks had an opportunity again to score as
Armando Ramirez had a PK attempt. Ramirez score on that PK attempt as it went just past the goalies stretched arms and the Larks took a 2-0 lead. The Builders added their first goal late in the game, but that wasn't enough as the Larks came away with their first victory of the season by a score of 2-1.
Abandelwa and Ramirez both notched their first career collegiate goals last night! The Larks currently hold a record of 1-0-1 and will host Bethany College JV on Friday evening at Sieber Field.
