Volleyball traveled up to Highland, KS this past weekend to take place in a four match tournament, as they looked to secure their first win of the season. Â Before the tournament began, the Larks held a season record of (0-5, 0-1) and they were unable to come away with a victory this weekend as their record now sits at (0-9, 0-1). Â
Hesston vs. Ottawa JVÂ
In their first match of the day on Friday evening the Larks played against Ottawa University JV, where they would fall in three sets (20-25, 16-25, 20-25). Â The Larks finished with 24 team kills in this match as
Alyssa Espinoza led the team with 7 kills. Â
Chyandra Teague had a great match as she finished with a team high 17 assists, while
Taylor Thompson led the team in aces with 3. Â Hesston finished with a total of 62 digs as
Alyssa Espinoza,
Samantha Espinoza,
Alexis Zehr, and
McKayla Long all finished with 10+ digs in the match. Â
Hesston vs. Labette
The Larks faced off with Labette in their second match of the day on Friday evening as it gave them an insight on a conference opponent that they will play later on this season.  Hesston dropped this match with Labette in three sets (12-25, 16-25, 16-25).  Hesston finished with 20 kills as
Taylor Thompson and
Samantha Espinoza both finished with 6 kills. Â Hesston was only able to come away four aces in this match as
Sadie Oesch finished with 2 aces. Â
Hesston vs. Southwestern Community College
In game one of the Larks doubleheader on Saturday morning they faced off with Southwestern CC as they dropped this match in three sets (22-25, 20-25, 25-27). Â
Alexis Zehr had an outstanding game as she dished out 16 assists, which was a game high for the Larks. Â Hesston had an outstanding third set as they nearly pulled off a win as they took the set to a 27-25 finish. Â
Hesston vs. Peru State JV
In the Larks final match of the tournament they dropped this match with Peru State JV in three sets (19-25, 18-25, 18-25). Â
Alexis Zehr had another great match for the Larks as she led them in three different categories: kills (6), aces (2), and assists (11). Â
The Larks will be back in action tomorrow evening for their home opener beginning at 6:30 PM versus Bethel College JV.
