Durney's Walk Off Home Run Keeps Season Alive

Topeka, Kan. - The Larks traveled to Topeka today for the KJCCC Div II District Softball Tournament at Hummer Sports Park. Game 1 finished in a 14-8 loss from Highland Community College. 

Game 2 which was an elimination matchup vs. nationally ranked Johnson County Community College which became a 10 inning battle. Hannah Williams went the distance on the mound for the Larks pitching all 10 innings and only giving up two runs in the outing. This was a season high for Williams in innings and her best overall performance in the most pivotal situation for this team all year. Both schools got on the scoreboard with two spots in the first inning. Both pitchers settled down after that,  and gave nothing up again for the next seven straight frames. 

Going into the 10th the game was still tied 2-2. Candace Durney came up to bat with 1 out, nobody on, and hit a first pitch walk off home run over the center field fence to send Hesston College into the next round of the District Tournament on Sunday. 

The Larks will face in another elimination game, Highland CC at 10am in Topeka, KS: Hummer Sports Park 

* Weather Permitting.

* Update - Games on Sunday March 15th were canceled. The rest of the tournament is being moved to Lake Shawnee Softball Complex. Hesston College vs. Highland CC will begin at 12pm Monday March 16th.
