Hesston, Kan. -Ā  Opening day went exactly how the Hesston College Larks hoped it would, in a two game sweep of the Friends University Falcons. Thanks to a trio of sophomores, the offense picked up right where they left off last season. Cade Irwin hit two home runs in the first game, along with two hits each from Ren Yokoyama and Sam Wiese. Freshman Gavin Moncure got on base twice and scored two runs for the Larks. The opening day starter for Hesston was sophomore Kanaloa Kapplolu who pitched 3.1 innings, striking out three.Ā Ā

In Game 2, the Larks double downed on the offense, scoring 13 runs capitalizing on multiple fielding errors by the Falcons. Sophomores Sam Wiese and Jovan Suarez each had two hits while Suarez led the team with four runs batted in. Sophomore David Lambert also had himself a day, hitting a two RBI triple to extend the Larks lead late in the game. On the mound, sophomore Trenton Canaan came on in relief to shut down the Falcons, going two innings and striking out three.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
