Labette, Kan -Ā The Hesston College women's basketball team got their first KJCCC win of the season defeating Labette County Community College 65-56 on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Norika Welch once again led the Larks in scoring with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomores Kelsey Koza and Kaley Phillips were in double digits again 14 and 12 respectively to go along with seven rebounds each. Hesston was able to overcome 28 turnovers on the day due to their plus 20 in the rebounding category and 50% shooting for the 3-pt line. Welch and Koza each made four 3-pointers. This win was the third for Hesston all time in their overall matchups with Labette that date back to 2014. The Cardinals had Makayla Washington with a game high 19 points and nine rebounds. The Larks will be at home their next two games as they will host the Highland Scotties on Wednesday Jan 24th at 5:30pm who come to Hesston with a 13-7 record.Ā
