WICHITA, Kan. – The Hesston College powerlifting team made a strong showing in their first ever competition bringing home three first-place finishes.

Evan Bernal (75 kg), Chase Sexton (100 kg) and Corbyn Oden (110 kg) each finished at the top of their respective weight classes. Sexton had the highest total of the Lark lifters (595 kg) with marks of 225 kg in squat, 145 kg in bench and 225 in deadlift. The Shawnee, Kan. native finished the meet as the third best lifter by bodyweight ratio. Oden accumulated a total weight of 585 kg between his three lifts pushing 220 kg in squat, 115 kg in bench and 250 kg in deadlift. Bernal claimed marks of 170 kg in squat, 125 kg in bench and 200 kg in deadlift for a total load of 495 kg.

Joshua Gaitan (100 kg) and Brock Swedlund (75 kg) also competed for the Larks. Gaitan finished second in his weight class with a total of 557.5 kg while Swedlund finished third with a total of 432.5 kg.

The Larks will be back in action November 16 as they compete in the Brawl in the Falls in Wichita Falls, Texas.
