HESSTON, Kan. - Hesston College faced a tough challenge against Southeast Community College, ultimately falling 89-78 in a high-energy matchup on Saturday (December 14). Despite their determined effort, Hesston couldn't overcome Southeast's balanced scoring and efficient shooting.
Southeast jumped out to a commanding lead in the first half, scoring 52 points to Hesston's 38. Their strong inside presence and ability to capitalize on Hesston turnovers proved decisive.
Hesston showed resilience in the second half, outscoring Southeast 40-37, but the deficit proved too much to overcome. Jammial Hicks stood out for Hesston with 26 points, including six three-pointers. Brycten Harris added 15 points and two steals, while Christian Hammons contributed 13 points and 3 assists.
Rebounding was a challenge for Hesston as they were outmatched 49-34 on the boards, including key offensive rebounds that extended Southeast's possessions. Hesston also struggled from the free-throw line, converting just 52.9% of their attempts compared to Southeast's 71.8%.
The Larks will take a break for the holidays, returning on January 7 as both the JV and varsity host Southwestern College at 5 and 7:30 p.m.
