Hesston, Kan -Ā Hesston had their home opening series delayed a day due to cold temperatures on Saturday. The bats certainly were not cold on Sunday as the Larks scored 24 runs in the two games to win both. Monday was the second half of the series with Frank Phillips taking both games while scoring 22 runs.Ā

Game 1: Hesston won their opening home game 12-10 thanks to a formidable offense. They were led by freshman Carly Lee who went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Lee also stole two bases. Sophomore Emma Killingsworth had a team high four hits and one of those being a double. The Larks scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Killingsworth got the win shutting down the Lady Plainsmen for win number one on the season.Ā

Game 2: Game 2 on Sunday ended in a five inning run rule led by patient batting for the Larks who had nine walks and two hits each by Payne, Lee, Castillo, and Mann. Hesston stole three bases as a team and was given a strong pitching performance by freshman Sydney Jackson who went five innings and only gave up four runs on six hits.Ā

Game 3: Even in a loss there were positives taken from game 3. Freshmen Mimi Castillo had a great day at the plate going 3-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in. For the Lady Plainsmen Cason on the mound threw a complete game and gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Montemayor led the team with two runs batted in. Frank Phillips took a 6-1 lead heading into the top of the second and never looked back.Ā

Game 4: Freshmen led the offense for Hesston in game 4. Carly Lee, Sydney Jackson, and Mimi Castillo each had two hits including a triple for Lee and two runs batted in. Hesston staved off run ruleĀ in the fifth inning by scoring two to keep the game going. The Larks again scored two in the bottom of the sixth but it was too late as the Lady Plainsmen put a five spot up to secure a 14-5 (six inning win).Ā

With the series split it gives the Hesston Larks a 5-6 record all-time against Frank Phillips.Ā
