Arkansas, Kan-Ā  Hesston faced one of the most formidable opponents they have seen all year in the Cowley Tigers and dropped a pair of games 14-3 and 12-2 on Thursday afternoon. The Larks did show reliance and battled back multiple times to tie or take the lead in both games. Hesston is now 1-3 in KJCCC play and will face Labette County on Saturday at home in Hesston, KS.Ā Ā

Game 1: Cowley's offense was in full force in game one as they dropped 14 runs on Larks pitching. The Tigers got on the board early with a 1-0 lead thanks to two timely singles. Hesston returned in the top of the second with two hits of their own but stranding both runners.Ā

Cowley opened up the scoreboard with a bases loaded triple and an additional double to make it 6-0. After a two run homer by Paige Scanlin the score was 8-0 Tigers.Ā

In the third inning Lauren Payne and Mim Castillo gave the Larks some life, each drawing walksĀ  with Payne stealing two bases (three on the day). Emma Killinsworth hit an RBI double and quickly the game was 8-3.Ā

The four inning was also fruitful for Hesston as freshman Ann Mcintire, sophomore Lauren Payne, and freshman Carly Lee compounded hits to make the score 10-4. Hesston used the age-old first and third steal tactic to make it 10-5, but this was as close as the Larks were able to get.Ā

Cowley tagged on three more runs capped off by a two run homer to win 14-5.Ā

Game 2: Hesston started off quick in the top of the first scoring two runs. One from an RBI double by freshman Mim Castillo and the other by sophomore Emma Killingsworth to make it 2-0.Ā 

Ā 

Cowley answered with two RBI doubles and an RBI single to make it 3-2.?? Tigers again showed off their offensive strength and hit a total of seven doubles and one triple to win 12-2.Ā 

Ā 

Carley Lee for Hesston led the team with two hits.


Sydney Jackson pitched four innings for the Larks and struck out four batters to give her (18) on the season.Ā
