HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 13-25) in their home opener to Highland Community College on Tuesday, August 27. Joanna Gomez and Laura Rojas led the way for the Larks with eight kills each followed by Brittany Cato with seven.  Hesston moved to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in Jayhawk conference action.

The Scotties took an early lead in the first set and held onto it down the stretch. The Larks managed to cut into the lead late in the set but they came up short falling 25-17 in the opening frame. The second set was back and forth most of the way as the two squads were tied as late as 12-12. The Scotties slowly built up a lead late in the set, earning the advantage 25-20. HC struggled to find a rhythm in the final set as HCC closed out the match with a 25-13 win.

The Larks finished the match with 30 kills and a .072 hitting percentage. Tanaeasia Brackens led the team with four total blocks, two solo and two assisted. Rojas and Audrey Garrison each recorded a service ace.

The Larks will be back in action this Saturday, August 31 as they host Central Christian College at 5:30 p.m. in Yost Center.
