OTTAWA, Kan. – The Hesston College men's soccer team defeated the Ottawa University reserve team 5-1 on Friday (September 20). With this win, the Larks avenged their season opening loss to the Braves in Hesston.
The Larks scored the only goal of the first half as Kenji Taira found the net in the 30th minute off of a pass from Paul Torres. The Braves tied the match early in the second half, but the Larks poured in four goals over the course of the next forty minutes to win the match. Tyler Beckford gave HC back the lead in the 67th minute with his first goal of the night off of Torres' second assist of the match. The Larks would score their last three goals within the last five minutes of the match as Beckford found the net again in the 85th minute with help from Alex Radu. Radu recorded another assist as he set up a nice shot for Staly Yao in the 87th minute. Mauricio Ramirez wrapped up scoring for the Larks as he stole a pass took it all the way himself to beat the keeper one-on-one.
The Larks took 17 shots and put nine on target. Luis Jimenez recorded eight saves in the match.
The Larks will be back in action on Wednesday (September 25 as they host Central Community College at 6:30 p.m.
