Hesston College men's soccer was recognized in the Continental Athletic Conference all-conference awards, with sophomore midfielder Yura Yamazaki named second team all-conference and freshman defender Saul Pineda selected as the team's Champions of Character representative.
Yamazaki, from Sagamihara, Japan, led the conference in assists with 13 and added 4 goals on 27 shots, including 14 on target for a .519 shot-on-goal percentage. His playmaking in the midfield was a key part of Hesston's attack all season and he also provided strong leadership on and off the field.
Each team in the conference nominated one player that exemplified the values of the NAIA's Champions of Character program. This program works to instill the values of sportsmanship, servant leadership, integrity, responsibility and respect. The Hesston College coaching staff chose freshman Saul Pineda for this distinction. Pineda, from Conroe, Texas, played mainly on the back line and helped the Larks record a conference-leading 8 shutouts on the way to 11 wins. He also contributed 5 assists, showing poise both defensively and in transition.
