OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Hesston College women's basketball team fell 96–36 at Oklahoma City University on Friday, Dec. 19, as the Stars pulled away early and controlled the game at Abe Lemons Arena.
Hesston briefly stayed within striking distance in the first quarter, getting an early paint bucket from
Mia Curtis and four straight points at the line from
Sarah Beltran to keep it close, but Oklahoma City used pressure defense to build separation and took a 22–7 lead after one. The Stars continued to extend the margin in the second quarter, pushing the advantage to 50–18 at halftime behind efficient inside scoring and points generated off turnovers.
Oklahoma City maintained control after the break and grew the lead to 70–25 entering the fourth, then closed out the 96–36 decision. Beltran led Hesston with 13 points, going a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line, while Akiva Brown added 10 points, a team-high seven rebounds and three blocks. Curtis finished with four points, and Halli Starks provided five points and four rebounds off the bench. As a team, Hesston shot 17.8 percent (8-of-45) from the field and 1-of-11 from three-point range while converting 19-of-24 at the line. Oklahoma City shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66), placed seven players in double figures and was paced by Victoria Ososanya and Lauren Rowan with 16 points each, while also turning 31 Hesston turnovers into 45 points.
The Larks will return to the court after the holiday break against Florida National University on Jan. 16.
