HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hesston College baseball team kicked off the 2025 season with a doubleheader against KJCCC Division I member Hutchinson Community College on Friday (Feb. 7). The Larks battled hard with the Blue Dragons, but ultimately fell in both contests, 9-0 and 14-4. The Larks will be back on the diamond this weekend as they play a pair of double headers with Cedar Valley College in Dallas, Texas on Friday (Feb. 14) and Saturday (Feb. 15). First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. each day.
Game 1 – Hesston College 0, Hutchinson Community College 9
An eight-run sixth inning lifted the Blue Dragons to victory in the opener.
Lark starting pitcher Yuya Omata held Hutchinson in check through the first two frames, but the Blue Dragons manufactured a run in the third to get on the board.
Jett Millsap took the mound in relief for the Larks and held off the Hutchinson bats until the sixth when they exploded for eight runs on five hits and three walks.
The Larks found themselves in scoring position a few times, but could never get the spark they needed to cross the plate.
Omata allowed two hits and one run over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Millsap surrendered four hits and four runs while, striking out one and walking two. Zach Guntle also made a relief appearance for the Larks allowing four runs on two hits and three walks.
Sincere Lozano led the Larks with two hits in three at bats.
Game 2 – Hesston College 4, Hutchinson Community College 14
The Larks managed to jump out to an early lead in the second game, but the Blue Dragons found their groove in the fourth inning and went on to win the game in eight innings.
Cutter Livermore drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning to get the Larks on the board and Kaleb Wise added to the Lark led in the third with an RBI single.
Luke Richard started on the bump for Hesston retiring the Blue Dragons in order in the first two frames, but Hutchinson broke through in the fourth taking a 3-2 lead. The Blue Dragons added three more runs in the fifth with as many hits.
Chris Cammllarie gave Hesston a surge with a two-run blast to center field in the top of the sixth, but Hutchinson responded with six runs in the home half of the inning. The Blue Dragons added two more runs in the eighth to end the game early.
Richard gave up four hits and three runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two.
Clayton, Cammllarie, Wise, Lucas Dunn and RJ Cruz each collected a hit for the Larks.
