HESSTON, Kan. - The Hesston College women's basketball team faced a tough matchup against Highland Community College on Monday (Feb. 10), falling 78-31 at home. The Larks started the game competitively, trailing only by six after the opening period, but the Scotties pulled away in the second quarter holding the Larks scoreless and taking a 31-13 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of the break, Highland broke the game wide open with a dominant 29-point third quarter, while Hesston managed only six points. The Larks found a bit more rhythm in the fourth, adding 12 points, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Highland's aggressive defense was a major factor, forcing 29 turnovers and securing 21 steals, which led to 38 points off turnovers.
Akiva Brown led the team with eight points and six rebounds, while Brittany Cato chipped in five points and two assists. Mariah Hall also made an impact on the boards with five rebounds.
The Larks will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 12) as they take on Labette Community College at 5:30 p.m.
