LIBERAL, Kan. – The Hesston College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Seward County Community College on Saturday (Feb. 22). The Lark struggled to manufacture runs in the matchup falling, 0-8 and 1-9. The Larks moved to 2-5 overall with these losses. The Larks will continue their season on Wednesday as they host the Friends University JV for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
Game 1 - Seward County 8, Hesston College 0
Lark starting pitcher Sydney Jackson held the Saints scoreless through the first three innings, but a seven-run fourth inning lifted the Saints to victory in game one. The Larks struggled at the plate, managing just two hits in the game by Jackson and Carly Lee. Defensively, Hesston committed three errors, which helped fuel Seward's offensive surge. On the mound, Jackson took the loss, allowing seven runs on 12 hits over four innings.
Game 2 - Seward County 9, Hesston College 1
The Larks showed more offensive life in the second game, collecting 10 hits, but still struggled to push runs across. Hesston's lone run came in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jackson. Lee had a strong showing at the plate, hitting a triple and scoring the team's only run. However, Seward jumped ahead early with five first-inning runs and never looked back. Hesston's pitchers had trouble containing Seward's offense, surrendering nine runs on nine hits while issuing eight walks. J. Moore started for the Larks and took the loss after allowing eight runs in 2.2 innings.
