Softball Suffers Sweep to KCK

HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College softball team suffered a series sweep to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday (Mar. 29). The Larks struggled to get their bats going in the doubleheader and the Blue Devil offense was too much for Hesston's pitching staff. The Larks will face off with Independence Community College on Thursday (Apr. 3) at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – Hesston College 0, KCKCC 14

The Larks recorded three hits in the opener, but were unable to plate a run as they fell 14-0. The Blue Devils scored one run in the first, five runs in the second, and eight in the fourth.

Alysha Kendrick, Julie Jones and Anna Mcintire each recorded a hit for the Larks.

April Galicia took the loss for Hesston allowing six runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

Game 2 – Hesston College 3, KCKCC 20

The Blue Devils kept their momentum going in the second game as they plated nine runs in the opening frame. They added four in the second and seven in the third to reach their total of 20 runs. The Larks scored their three runs in the bottom of the third on a string of four singles including RBI hits by Carly Lee and Kendrick.

Daysi Mann went 2-for-2 in the game and scored a run. Lee, Kendrick, and Matalyn MacDowell recorded the other hits for Hesston.

Julia Moore was the starter for Hesston allowing eight runs on nine hits in one inning. Galicia tossed two scoreless innings of relief to close out the contest allowing only three hits and struck out one batter.
