Softball Falls Short Against Labette

PARSONS, Kan. – The Hesston College softball team fell in a conference doubleheader to Labette Community College on Saturday (Apr. 12). The Larks will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 18) as they host Cowley College at 2 p.m.

Game 1 – Hesston College 1, Labette CC 8

The Cardinals started the scoring off early, plating four runs in the opening frame. They added three more in the fourth and one in the sixth to wrap up their scoring. The Larks scored their lone run in the sixth inning as Carly Lee crossed the plate on a fielder's choice after reaching on a base hit.

Lee finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate wish Emery Martinez also recording a hit.

Anndi Sharp took the loss for Hesston tossing 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk.

Game 2 – Hesston College 7, Labette CC 12

Labette got their bats working early again in game two, holding a 9-0 lead after three frames. Hesston sparked some offense in the fourth, scoring six runs on five hits and an error. Dayzi Mann drove in the first run with an RBI single to left before Serena Hewes crossed the plate on a Cardinal error. Julie Jones blasted a double to center field to bring home Mann and Lee before Anna Mcintire brought her and Ayanna Garcia around with a double of her own. The Cardinals wrapped up their scoring in the fifth plating three runs on two hits. Hesston scratched across their final run in the sixth on an RBI single by Macy Bullard, but it wasn't enough as the Larks would go on to fall 12-7.

Hewes and Mann each went 2-for-4 in the contest and Mcintire and Jones each drove in a pair of runs.

April Galicia took the loss allowing nine runs (zero earned) on seven hits and four walks while recording two strikeouts.
