HESSTON, Kan. – The Hesston College softball team lost a pair of games to Fort Scott Community College on Tuesday (Apr. 22). The Larks struggled to generate offense against the Greyhounds tough pitching while the Greyhounds took advantage of some big hits to earn the double header sweep. The Larks will be back in action on Thursday (Apr. 24) as they host Coffeyville Community College for sophomore day starting at 2 p.m.
Game 1 – Hesston College 0, Fort Scott CC 12
Lark starter Anndi Sharp kept the Greyhounds in check early holding them scoreless through the first three innings, but they finally broke through in the fourth with a seven-run rally. Julia Moore retired the Greyhounds in order in the fifth, but they broke off another rally in the sixth plating their final five runs. Hesston struggled to reach base recording two hits and two walks.
Sharp dealt 3.1 frames in the circle allowing five runs on seven hits. Moore allowed five runs on four hits with a strikeout in two innings.
Game 2 – Hesston College 0, Fort Scott CC 11
The scoring was a bit more spread out in the second game as the Greyhounds scored one in the second and the third before adding two in the fifth and seven runs in the sixth. The Larks had a few more opportunities on the base paths in the finale racking up three hits and drawing five walks, but were unable to piece together a scoring play.
Moore took the loss as the starter allowing four runs (one earned) om four hits and a walk while striking out a batter in four innings.
