Men's Soccer Bested by Bluejays in Season Opener

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Hesston College men's soccer fell 6-0 on the road to Tabor in a non-conference matchup on August 27. The Bluejays struck early, tallying twice in the first half before adding four more in the second. Tabor's Pol Fernandez opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his first goal of the season, followed by Molelwa Abendelwa in the 27th minute off an assist from Henrique Buccini. Hesston's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Omar Villanueva Gálvez, held off several early chances with three first-half saves, but the hosts carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The second half saw Tabor break the game open. Felipe Rodriguez made it 3-0 in the 57th minute, and Cason Chadd added a fourth in the 65th. Santino Tapia struck in the 71st minute from an Abendelwa assist, and Andre Trigo capped the scoring just four minutes later. Villanueva Gálvez finished with four saves on ten shots on goal, while Yura Yamazaki and Abel Aguado each registered two shots on target for Hesston. The Larks managed six total shots, four on goal, and earned four corner kicks, but couldn't find the back of the net against Tabor keeper Benjamin Baeza, who recorded the shutout with four saves. Tabor held a 17-6 advantage in shots and 10-4 in shots on goal, converting efficiently in the attacking third to secure the win.

The Larks will head to Arkansas to take on John Brown University on August 29 at 7:30 p.m.
