SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Hesston College men's soccer team fell 7-1 on the road to John Brown University on Aug. 29. The Larks managed just one shot on goal, but it found the back of the net early in the second half when freshman Benjamin Duguid scored unassisted in the 47th minute for his first collegiate goal.
John Brown came out strong in the first half, scoring four times in a 25-minute span. Marcos Caballero opened the scoring in the 19th minute off a feed from Atim Roper, followed quickly by Ransford Okyere's strike just two minutes later. Ahmed Abess made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute on a corner kick connection with Alejandro Gallardo and Constantin Bauer, and Roper capped the half in the 44th minute with help from Kendal Madrigal and Gallardo.
After Duguid's early second-half goal cut the deficit to 4-1, JBU responded quickly. Marcos Miranda netted an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, and Gallardo struck twice more — once in the 68th minute, and again in the 77th minute from assists by Gabriel Cabrera and Miranda — to complete the 7-1 scoreline.
Statistically, Hesston was outshot 19-1, with JBU putting 10 shots on goal. Jimenez made two saves before exiting, and Omar Villanueva Galvez finished the match in goal.
The Larks will be back in action on Tuesday (Sep. 2) as they host Bethany College at Sieber Field at 7 p.m.
