Volleyball Takes One from Bluejays

HESSTON, Kan. - Hesston College volleyball fell to Tabor College 3–1 (7–25, 15–25, 25–22, 18–25) in a non-conference match Thursday (Aug. 28). Tabor came out firing in the opening set, hitting .419 and using a barrage of early kills from Liana McGonigle to seize control. Hesston struggled to find offensive rhythm, managing just three kills against four errors in the first set. The Bluejays carried that momentum into the second frame, jumping to a 9–1 lead behind the strong setting of Annerieke Nederveen, who tallied 49 assists on the day, and efficient swings from Carolina Gonclaves and Catherine Eddy.

The Larks responded in the third, turning up their defense and passing to allow setter Se'Maiya Farrow to distribute effectively. Hesston hit .250 in the set, with balanced contributions from Lydia Foster (7 kills) and Kennedie Esparza (7 kills). A late surge, including back-to-back service aces from Farrow, helped close out the set 25–22 and keep the match alive.

Tabor regained control in the fourth, riding McGonigle's match-high 14 kills at a blistering .565 clip, plus double-digit kill efforts from Jacee Ray (14) and Gonclaves (11). Libero EmiLee Walnofer anchored the Bluejay back row with 32 digs, while Hesston's Marisa Branch and Kadence Taylor each recorded 12 digs to lead the defense. Despite 26 total kills from the Larks and 56 digs as a team, Tabor's .319 hitting percentage and 59 total kills proved too much.

The Larks will travel to Kansas City on Saturday (Aug. 30) to take on Calvary University at 1:00 p.m.
