Men's Soccer Struggles with Pioneers

GOODWELL, Okla. - Hesston College men's soccer fell 2-0 on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday evening. The Larks battled hard but couldn't break through offensively, while the Aggies capitalized on their chances to secure the win.

The first half saw Oklahoma Panhandle State control much of the possession, firing 11 shots compared to Hesston's four. Goalkeeper Ethan Connelly kept the Larks in the game with two saves, including a key stop in the 15th minute, but the Aggies finally broke through in the 41st minute when Othman Gherab found the back of the net to give OPSU a 1-0 lead. Hesston had a couple of promising opportunities in the half, with shots from Alexander Radu and Paul Torres Jr., but both were denied. The Larks also earned two corners midway through the period but couldn't convert.

In the second half, Hesston looked for the equalizer but managed only one shot on goal, again from Radu. Meanwhile, OPSU continued to apply pressure with 12 more shots. Connelly was sharp in net, tallying four more saves, but the Aggies extended their lead in the 72nd minute when Ayoup Bader scored off an assist from Alami Senhaji. Despite several substitutions to spark the offense, the Larks were unable to generate enough attack, finishing with just five total shots. OPSU closed the match with a 23-5 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in shots on target.

Connelly finished with six saves in goal for Hesston. Torres, Duguid, and Llanos each added shot attempts.

The Larks will be back in action against Waldorf University on Wednesday (Sept. 17) at 4:30 p.m.
