OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Hesston College fell 86–50 to Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon at the Gaulke Activity Center, as the Evangels built an early lead and controlled the game throughout. Mid-America Christian jumped out quickly behind transition baskets and efficient perimeter shooting, opening the game on an 8–2 run before stretching the margin with multiple three-pointers in the opening minutes. Hesston struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first half, shooting just 18.2 percent from the field, while MACU connected on 9-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc to take a 46–20 advantage into the break.
Trent Thompson led the Larks with 20 points, scoring aggressively at the free-throw line where he went 12-of-14, while also pulling down six rebounds. Brennon Dodge added eight points and four rebounds, and Antonio Odum chipped in five points. Hesston showed improved efficiency in the second half, shooting 37.0 percent from the field, but Mid-America Christian continued to extend its lead with strong interior play and second-chance opportunities, finishing with a 50–28 rebounding edge and 22 second-chance points. Morris Williams paced MACU with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting, while James Locke added 13 points off the bench and Clance Crosby recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hesston finished the game shooting 26.7 percent overall and 3-of-30 from three-point range, while Mid-America Christian closed the contest shooting 48.3 percent from the field to secure the win.
The Larks will be back at home on Monday (Jan. 5) to host Kansas Christian College at 7 p.m.
