Larks Fall to Bellevue in Final Home Match

HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston College women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Bellevue University on Saturday, Oct. 24, in its final home match of the season. Despite nine saves from goalkeeper Ashleigh Williams, the Larks were unable to overcome an early deficit against the Bruins.

Bellevue took control in the opening minutes, with Adi Kasel scoring in the eighth minute off an assist from Katrina Avila. The Bruins doubled their advantage in the 19th minute when Clementine Smidt found the back of the net following a pass from Baylee Tex.

The Larks faced an additional challenge in the 28th minute when Emilie Romero received a red card, forcing Hesston to play with 10 players for the remainder of the match. Bellevue missed the ensuing penalty kick, allowing the Larks to enter halftime trailing 2-0.

Bellevue extended its lead just over two minutes into the second half as Kasel scored her second goal of the afternoon, bringing the score to 3-0.

Hesston continued to battle despite the disadvantage, generating two shots on goal in the second half. Brooke Tafoya tested Bellevue goalkeeper Neela Sukhram in the 68th minute, while Rena Itoga recorded another shot on target in the 78th minute. Both attempts were saved.

Williams finished with nine saves across 90 minutes, including six in the first half. Bellevue held a 25-2 advantage in shots and earned seven corner kicks.

The loss moves Hesston to 8-4-3 overall and 0-2 in Continental Athletic Conference play, while Bellevue improves to 10-2-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

The match also marked Senior Day for the Larks as they closed out their home schedule for the 2026 season.

The Larks will close out their regular season Friday, Oct. 30, traveling to Kansas City, Mo., to face Spurgeon College at 6 p.m.
