POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — The Hesston College baseball team won two of three games in a weekend series against Calvary University, highlighted by explosive offense and several standout individual performances.
Game 1 – Calvary 16, Hesston 13
In the series opener, the Larks struck first in the opening inning when Noel Cesena drove in Federico Moran with a single after the bases were loaded. Calvary responded in a big way in the second inning, scoring seven runs to take control of the game early. Hesston chipped away before a huge sixth inning changed the momentum. With the bases loaded, Samuel Vasquez hit a grand slam to tie the game, and Kaleb Wise followed with a solo home run to even the score at 9–9. Calvary answered with another big inning to retake the lead, but Hesston made one last push in the ninth when Moran hit a three-run home run. The comeback fell short as the Larks dropped the opener 16–13. Moran led the Larks with three hits and five RBIs, while Vasquez drove in four runs and Wise added a home run.
Game 2 - Hesston 23, Calvary 6
The Larks responded in game two with a dominant offensive performance, defeating Calvary 23–6. Hesston scored three runs in the first inning on a two-run home run from Trentis Lane and added four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Vasquez. Calvary scored four runs in the fourth to cut into the lead, but the Larks answered in the fifth with another home run from Lane. Hesston then broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring 13 runs on a combination of hits, walks and a grand slam from Wise. Lane finished the game with two home runs and five RBIs, while Vasquez drove in six runs and Wise added a grand slam in the big inning.
Game 3 - Hesston 8, Calvary 4
Hesston secured the series win in the third game with an 8–4 victory. The Larks exploded for six runs in the first inning, beginning with a leadoff home run from Moran. Later in the inning, RBI hits from Kreyton Johnson, Chris Cammllarie and Cole Steinrich helped build the early lead. Cammllarie added a solo home run later in the game, and Noel Cesena drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead. Beckett DePuy pitched a complete game for the Larks, allowing four runs while keeping Calvary from mounting a late comeback.
As a team, the Larks scored 44 runs over the three-game series with multiple home runs from Moran, Vasquez, Wise, Lane and Cammllarie, helping Hesston secure the series victory.
Hesston will return to action Tuesday, March 24, with a nine-inning game against Southwestern Christian University in Oklahoma City.
