The Hesston College Women's Soccer team defeated the Nebraska Christian College Sentinels 4-1 on Saturday evening earning their first win of the year in as many tries. After playing a couple scrimmages earlier in the week this was their first official contest of the year the Lark women' traveled to Papillion, NE to take on the NCC Sentinels. The Sentinels were the first to strike scoring in the 5th minute of the contest on a goal off the foot of Kelsey Ward. The Sentinels held off the Larks for next 27 minutes when the Larks
Kara Longenecker found the back of the net off of a rebound. Her goal knotted the game up at 1-1. Once the Larks got the scoring going, it didn't take them long to score again. Eight minutes later it was again Longenecker that took a shot from the 18 yard line to put the Larks up for good. Two minutes later
Annalys Hanna added a third goal finishing a through ball from
Jennifer Rodriguez to put the Larks up 3-1 headed into half time.
The second half saw both teams have some chances that neither were able to take advantage of until the 75th minute when
Laurine Yeboah-Appiah was able to finish a cross from Paige Meyers. This finished the scoring for the contest and put the Larks up 4-1. The Larks are 1-0 on the season and will have the week to recover and prepare for their first home contest against Northeast Community College this coming Saturday, August 31st at 7pm.
