Men's Basketball Drops a Tough One to Sterling JV

Hesston, KS -

The Larks dropped a tough one to Sterling JV last night by a score of 77-64, moving their record to 1-2 on the season.

Hesston scored the first basket of the game when Ethan Hildebrand (Fr. Stafford, Kan.) made a layup that was assisted by Tre McCullough (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to put the Larks up 2-0.  The Warriors began to go on a run, which put them up 15-9 with 11:38 remaining in the half until Jerome Jackson (So. Kansas City, Mo) scored on a jumper to make the score 15-11.  The Larks added another bucket after Elijah Smith (Rs. Fr. Kansas City, MO) stole the ball and passed it to Tre McCullough for a slam dunk, as the Larks trailed 15-13.  The Larks and Warrirors went back and forth for much of the first half until Hesston added back-to-back and 1's by Elijah Smith and Juwuan Clifton (Rs. Fr. Conway, Ark.) to put the Larks up 27-26.  The Larks would take a 3 point advantage into halftime as they led 29-26.  The Warriors began the second half with some hot shooting as they took the lead back from the Larks.  Juwuan Clifton would add a three pointer with 14:37 left in the game as the Larks trailed 39-36.  Both teams would trade buckets for most of the second half until the Warriors extend their lead to 66-52 with 5:46 remaining in the game.  The Larks were unable to complete their comeback as they would ultimately fall 77-64.   Elijah Smith would go on to lead the Larks in scoring and rebounds as he finished with 26 points and 18 rebounds on the night.  Ethan Hildebrand also recorded double digit rebounds as he finished with 16 to go along with 9 points.  Juwuan Clifton recorded his third consecutive double digit scoring performance as he had 15 points.

The Larks now begin preperation for their next game tomorrow at home versus Central Christian College JV at 7:00 PM inside Yost Center.  They will look to get back to .500 on the season as they currently sit at 1-2.
