The Larks faced off with McPherson JV early this afternoon, and would go on to defeat the Bulldogs 74-68. Â Hesston now moves to .500 overall on the season (2-2), and will begin preparing for their next game on Saturday afternoon.Â
Hesston opened up the game on a 9-3 run after baskets by
Elijah Smith (Rs. Fr. Kansas City, Mo.),
Juwuan Clifton (Rs. Fr. Conway, Ark.) and
Jerome Jackson (Rs. Fr. Kansas City, Mo.). Â The Larks would go on to extend their lead to 13-5 after a fast break layup from
Spencer Conway (So. Greeley, Colo.). Â McPherson JV would close in on the Larks lead after a couple of buckets as the score was 13-12, but
Elijah Smith drained a three to give the Larks a four point advantage 16-12. Â The Bulldogs would come back and take a four point lead into halftime as they led 39-35. Â
The Larks came out of halftime with something to prove, as
Elijah Smith and
Ethan Hildebrand (Fr. Stafford, Kan.) continued to dominate the game. Â Hesston would take the lead with 14:33 left in the game after a drive and pass by
Elijah Smith to
Spencer Conway for a three pointer as the Larks led 49-45. Â They would continue to hold onto their lead and began to increase with #;37 left in the game after
Juwuan Clifton scored a layup and then came back with a three pointer as they went ahead 66-61. Â Hesston would go on to close out the game and secure their second win of the season by a score of 74-68. Â
Elijah Smith had another game to remember as he finished with 17 points, 21 rebounds and 7 assists. Â
Ethan Hildebrand recorded another double-double as he finished with 16 points and 12 boards, and
Juwuan Clifton led all scorers with 18 points and added 8 boards as well.
