Hesston College Baseball Wins Regional Tournament

The Hesston College Larks traveled to Union, Missouri for the NJCAA DII Region 16 Tournament and came home Regional Champions over the weekend. The Larks won each of their three games, by a combined score of 29-10. The pitching staff led the way with all three starters completing at least seven innings or more. Sophomore Trenton Canaan began the weekend off pitching seven innings and surrendering five runs. Sophomore Brody Burnette took the hill on Saturday and showed why he is the workhorse of the Larks' rotation, throwing 133 pitches over nine innings and striking out eight batters and giving up one run. Sophomore David Lambert started on Sunday and also went seven innings striking out 3 batters and giving up one run.Â

The bats for Hesston remained hot, combining for 30 hits, five home runs and 29 runs over the three games. The leading man was Sophomore Kody Pilor, who in the tournament hit for a .400 batting average, had five runs batted in, five runs, and a grand slam home run to seal the championship game.Â

Hesston will now travel to Enid, Oklahoma to play in the 2023 NJCAA DII Baseball Plains District Tournament as the number five seed. It will be a eight team double elimination format with the Larks up against the four seeded Murray State Aggies on Thursday May 11th at 4pm in David Allen Memorial Ballpark - Enid OK.
