LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Hesston College women's basketball team faced a tough outing against the University of Saint Mary JV squad on Friday (December 6) falling 107-51.
Hesston battled throughout, with standout performances from several players. Auniyeuh Matlock led the scoring effort with 11 points, including two three-pointers, while Akiva Brown added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Ashleigh Williams also contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds. Jenna Avery played a strong facilitating role with 6 points and 6 assists.
While the Larks showed moments of promise, their shooting struggles were apparent. Hesston shot just 27.9% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc. The team also faced challenges at the free-throw line, converting only 42.3% of their attempts. Turnovers proved costly, with the Larks committing 31 total.
The Spires set the tone early, posting a dominant first-quarter lead of 27-8. Their consistent scoring across all quarters put the game out of reach for the Larks.
