Hesston, Kan - The Larks take one over the weekend as they found the Lakers of Iowa Lakes Community College to be a tough test heading into Region play. After a game one win in the high scoring affair of 11-10, Hesston dropped the last two games of the series 13-2 in five innings and 14-2 on Sunday. Iowa Lakes improves to 4-15 whereas Hessston is now 5-16. There is a bright side to the upcoming schedule, as all records are 0-0 in region play. The Larks will play seven games each against East Central College, Moberly Area Community College, and North Central Missouri College to determine seeding for the Region 6/16 tournament.Ā

Game 1: The lone win on the weekend for Hesston came in game one as the offense for the third time this week looked ready for action in scoring 11 runs, including six in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win. Freshman Aiden McCullough had his season high in hits with four while driving in one run. Freshman Michael Clayton also had his season high in hits with three and drove in one run. Sophomore Brian Walker who was moved to third base for the series had two hits (1) HR and three runs batted in.Ā

Yuya Omata started on the mound for Hesston and had a strong three innings of three strikeouts, one hit and one run. Sophomore Deklan Kulaski earned the win, his first on the season (1-0).Ā

The 15 hits for the Larks is the second most for the season behind the 21 they had at Dallas College-Cedar Valley in February.Ā

Game 2: This was the shortest game on the weekend as the Lakers took care of the Larks 13-2 in five innings. The two runs for Hesston were driven in by Brian Walker (Sac Fly)Ā and Dominic Garcia (Single). The Lakers had three hitters with three hits each. Garrett Bergman who started for Iowa Lakes threw four innings and gave up zero runs while striking out four.Ā

The Larks pitching staff combined for four strikeouts and four walks while giving up 10 hits. Connor Bear took the loss in the game and is now (0-6) for the season.Ā

Game 3: The Lakers used four home runs to power past the Larks by a score of 14-2. Carlos Roman was the leader in hits for Hesston with two. Bringing his season total to 18. Sophomore Jaden Johannesen hit his first home run of the season on a solo shot, along with Freshman Colin Pitzer who brought in the other run on a triple.Ā Ā
Dylan Rich was charged with the loss, as he moved to (1-4) on the season for Hesston. The Pitching staff did have 10 strikeouts combined along with six walks.Ā

The Larks will look to move on from this weekend and prepare for Region play as they will start a stretch of 21 games to determine seeding for the Region 6/16 tournament.Ā
Hesston will be off for midweek games this week, and then start Region 6/16 over the weekend as they travel to East Central College March 23rd & 24th 1/4pm & 12pm.Ā
