Two Second-Half Goals Lift Larks Over Royals

HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston College men's soccer team battled back from an early deficit to earn a 2–1 win over Ecclesia College on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 22) at Sieber Field. The victory improved the Larks' record to 9–6–1 on the season.

Ecclesia struck first in the 32nd minute when Colin Sarpong found the net off an assist from Julius Herzog, giving the visitors a 1–0 lead heading into halftime. Despite dominating the first half in shots (15–6) and corner kicks (8–2), the Larks couldn't break through against Ecclesia goalkeeper Damian Castro, who made eight saves before the break.

Hesston's persistence paid off in the second half. In the 56th minute, Alexander Radu scored the equalizer on a clean setup from Jaiden Fox Trevelyan following a corner kick sequence. The Larks continued to control possession and create chances, ultimately breaking the tie in the 89th minute when Santi Llanos converted the game-winner off a precise assist from defender Nedas Vaivada.

Llanos and Trevelyan led the Hesston attack with five shots apiece, while Radu added two on target. Vaivada was active both defensively and offensively, contributing an assist and three shots. The Larks outshot Ecclesia 23–18 overall, including a 12–5 advantage in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Harry Morris made three saves to anchor the defense, while midfielder James Hori added a crucial defensive stop in the second half. Ecclesia's Castro finished with 10 saves in a strong performance.

Hesston closed the match with disciplined team defense, limiting late chances and drawing four corner kicks in the final 15 minutes to secure the comeback win.

The Larks will continue their home stretch as they host Kansas Christian College tomorrow. The match has been moved to Stryker indoor facility in Wichita due to forecasted thunderstorms. Kickoff has been moved up to 2 p.m.
