Men's Basketball Falls at Doane

CRETE, Neb. — The Hesston College men's basketball team battled throughout but fell 90–54 to Doane University on Tuesday evening at the Haddix Center. The Larks shot 38.6% from the field and forced nine steals, but a hot-shooting Doane squad connected on 58% of its attempts, including 11 three-pointers, to secure the win.

Trent Thompson led Hesston with 14 points and nine rebounds, providing a steady interior presence on both ends. Antonio Odum added nine points, four assists, and two steals, while Brooks Thrift also scored nine points with two steals and a made three-pointer. Ky Kougl contributed nine points and three rebounds, and Brennon Dodge chipped in six points and two assists off the bench.

Doane built an early lead behind strong first-half shooting, taking a 39–25 advantage at halftime. Hesston opened the game with a defensive stop and a basket from Odum to tie it 3–3 early, but the Tigers responded with a 10–2 run to seize control. Thompson and Kougl helped keep the Larks within striking distance through the opening period, combining for 12 of Hesston's first-half points.

The Tigers continued their offensive rhythm in the second half, led by Justus Gardiner's 19 points and Casen Chaney's 15. Despite Hesston's improved ball movement and bench scoring (29 total points), Doane's 44% shooting from beyond the arc proved too much to overcome.

The Larks will be back home on Thursday (Nov. 13) to host Central Christian at 7 p.m.
